As Jackie and I wrap up our first week on Kickstarter, we have already raised $2,813, funding 15% of our goal with 42 backers and counting! This is great news! Did you know that 75% of all campaigns that raise 20% of their goal go on to fund? With your help, The Doll Kind will become a reality!
Our first week on Kickstarter has already taught us a few things.
1. Kickstarter can be a little confusing.
When you have submersed yourself in a project for months and months, it can be difficult to view the project from another’s perspective. We had no idea how confusing Kickstarter can be for someone who is not familiar with the crowdfunding platform. However, once you familiarize yourself with a few basics, it can be quite simple.
A. The funding goal is the amount of money that a creator needs to complete their project. (The Doll Kind’s is 18,000)
B. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. No one will be charged for a pledge towards a project unless it reaches its funding goal. This way, creators always have the budget they scoped out before moving forward.
C. A creator is the person or team behind the project idea, working to bring it to life (AKA Jackie + I).
D. Backers are folks who pledge money to join creators in bringing projects to life (AKA you).
E. Rewards are a creator's chance to share a piece of their project with their backer community. We have rewards ranging from a thank you on our site, to a donated doll on your behalf. You can also choose from one to three dolls, or even work with TDK to design the next doll for the world to see! Do you want to teach your child the joy of giving first hand by giving them the experience of donating TDK dolls in person? Your in luck, because we are offering that as well! There is literally something for everyone.
2. We have a long way to go, and we are up for the challenge!
We are beyond humbled by the support we have received thus far, but we still have a long way to go! To those of you who have backed us by pledging to the campaign, we sincerely thank you. For those of you who haven’t, what are you waiting for?! Really though, we would love any feedback you have to make our campaign stronger and more successful. This is all about you, so when you give us your feedback, we work hard to incorporate it into The Doll Kind.

We kind of already anticipated this, but we just need to state it for the record because really, we do. You have shared the campaign on social media, pledged your hard earned funds, and talked to others about The Doll Kind, all in an effort to share the love and give the gift of kindness to children around the world. Go ahead, pat yourselves on the back. You are doing a whole lot of good out there.
